“Ooooh, she brought it out just so we could see it!” my little grandson cried, promptly bursting into tears. And at first I thought, “Oh how sweet!” But I think he was right!
That cat had been theirs for a few months before they had to move away and leave it with neighbors. But in that short time, she had wormed her way deep into his heart.
That cat, which they’d owned for a few months before moving away and having to leave it with neighbors, had wormed its way pretty deeply into his heart.
So you can imagine their excitement when they came back for a visit and reconnected with Lunetta (Little Moon). And they eager to see her little kitten, which she still kept well hidden.
That is, until they started packing their car to leave. Because she then decided to bring her tiny kitten out of hiding, and put it at their feet! Almost as if she sensed they were leaving.
God’s show of love
I firmly believe that this was God’s way of demonstrating His love to them. Letting them know that He sees their needs, hears the cries of their hearts, and that He will always care for them.

I grew up on a farm, you know, around cats and kittens all my life. And I’d never seen a cat bring her kitten out of hiding so soon. Only 4-5 days old, it still its eyes shut and transparent paws.
It’s odd enough for a cat to bring her kittens out that early. But even stanger that she also let us pick it up and pet it!
As she, calmly alert, rolled on the ground as cats do, stretching and preening. It was as if was saying, “Look what I made! See what I brought you?”
And as we our way to their car, Mamma Cat followed close behind.
“Where are you going? You just got here!” she howled, crying the whole time. She followed only a short distance, then stopped and looked back at her baby. But she stayed there, saying goodbye to her family, meowing the whole time. As the kids sniffled and cried, “I’m so glad we got to see the kitten! He’s so cute!”
By the time Hubby and I walked back to our house, Mamma Cat had hidden the kitten again.
After all, she’d done her duty by showing the new arrival to her old family. And I realized that my grandson was right. It sounds crazy, I know. But I think Lunetta wanted her family to see the kitten.

God’s special care
God wanted to send the children off with a special gift: The gift of God’s love in a kitten.
Leaving pets behind may seem like a small thing to us big people. But for little ones it’s a big deal.
It had already been hard enough for the kids to move away from their nonni and from the town they’d grown to love. And then to have to leave their pet as well was hard for them.
Their move was hard on all of us. But God knows these things. So sometimes He sends small, unexpected gifts. Like mother cats bringing their kittens out of hiding way too soon.
It made their day and brought consolation to all our hearts. Reminding us that we can be sure of His everlasting care. And it helped these two nonni to see that just as He has always cared for us, He will care for them.
He cares for you in the same way. Even in troubled and uncertain times, God is at work, helping you in unexpected ways. And He sometimes uses strange and unusual ways to remind us of His wonderful care!
Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

No doubt that experience with the kitten will remain with your grandson as a reminder of God’s loving attentiveness. I still remember my such lesson, when my grandmother prayed with my brother and me (ages 4 and 7, perhaps), to find a lost key so we could walk up the street for an ice cream cone. Such an inconsequential matter, yet God did indeed lead us to that lost key–in a place we’d already looked at least three times!

This is such a sweet story. :)
You know, I get all of your posts by email, but can see only a fraction of them when I look for them in wordpress reader. The last post showing up for me is the one about the handkerchief. I don’t know if others have the same experience, but thought I’d mention it in case it is something wordpress support could help fix.

Thanks for letting me know about that, Linda. But it’s not a WP issue. It’s because of me having to transfer my content to a totally new site. Something had gone with the old one on their end, and it wasn’t updating properly. So I am gradually re-adding posts that got transferred over as drafts (because I didn’t transfer them correctly.). And because some of them obviously contain older info, I decided not to change the publish dates. The reader only shows recent posts, and those are older ones. I think for the remainder posts I will give them new publish dates. Thanks for the heads-up though! Glad you liked the kitten story – it was a big blessing to us as a family!

I love the story of the kitten. That is very unusual for a cat to do. We have about 15 outside cats and have never seen that happen

I know, Tom. Having grown up on a farm we usually had 15-20 outside cats too. And I’d never seen anything like it. But Jesus loves us, and has a special place for kids. He knew what those tender hearts needed right then. God’s love sometimes comes even in the form of a kitten!
