God often works, and shows His love, in mysterious ways. And sometimes it is through such ordinary events that we mistake them for mere chance or circumstance. Like the time He used the unusual behavior of a mamma cat to encourage our grandchildren.
That mother cat, Lunetta, had brought her kitten out of hiding far too early. Just so they could see it before they had to move away and leave them behind. An unusual event that touched their hearts in a special way. Easing the pain of separation from us and the town they loved.
God’s mysterious ways
But that’s one of the ways He works. He reaches out through simple events to show His deep and unfathomable love.
God moves in a mysterious way, his wonders to perform. He plants his footsteps in the sea, and rides upon the storm.

Our son and daughter both have chronic health problems. Our oldest granddaughter (now 22) suffers with Multiple Schlerorsis, which causes a lot of suffering, especially during flare-ups.
Recently she has been plagued by severe chest pains, making it difficult to breathe or even speak. So she’s mostly been confined to a rocking chair, like an old woman.
I can only imagine how depressing and discouraging this must be. In the prime of her youth, she should be pursuing her many plans and dreams. Not rocking like an old grandma.
God’s love in a kitten
Awakened one night by the barking of their dogs, they opened the door to find a kitten on their doorstep. A tame kitten, contentedly purring at having found a new family. A kitten that happily made himself at home, sitting with Allie in her chair.
So they spent the days together, Allie and the cat, creating companionship for each other. And my daughter said that she smiles a lot more since the kitten arrived.
We are all convinced that God sent the kitten to cheer her heart and ease her loneliness. That is God’s way.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3
Could the kitten have appeared by chance? Possibly. But I believe it was a demonstration of God’s providence. That He provided just what she needed at exactly the right time.
That’s the way God is. He orchestrates the heavens, commands the world, and will even move mountains if necessary to take care of his children.
Why no healing?
Why didn’t God just heal her? Surely He could, but we may never know reasons for His ways.
All we know for sure is that He knows best and that He is a loving God. Even here in this life of pain and suffering He cares for His children. And when healing doesn’t come (for whatever reason), He steps in and provides the grace, strength, and fortitude to carry on. Often He provides simple encouragements – like kittens – that become great blessings to our hearts and lives.
Our great God moves in mysterious ways – even through tiny little kittens! And if you don’t know Him in that way, seek Him out today. He longs to show you the same tender loving care!
