With his tiny feet resting on the surface of the snow, he pecked at the weeds growing inside the roof eaves. The only plants not covered with snow. I love birds, and felt sorry for the brave little fellow. I wondered how he would find enough to eat and keep warm.
“Don’t worry, I take care of the birds,” came a soft whisper. And that thought brought me back to my morning reading.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
Matthew 6:26,28
We don’t have to worry. God feeds the birds and dresses the flowers. And He says that we are much more valuable than they are.
And yet, we often fret and worry, don’t we?
We worry about how we are going to pay the bills. We strive to have a savings account, a secure job, and a solid mortgage-free home. All good and wise things, to be sure.
But security, I’ve come to realize, is just a shaky illusion. Natural disasters destroy homes all the time. People show up for their jobs only to be told they are no longer needed. And money? Well it often seems to vanish into thin air, doesn’t it?

The only lasting security is to trust in the Lord’s loving care. To rest in the assurance that He will always care for us, come what may.
Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin anew each morning.
A simple lesson, but an important reminder. But one I hope to remember all day, and every day for the rest of my life.
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:31-33

Your heart of compassion for a tiny bird and his plight is reflective of your heart for all those around you. God cares! It does bear repeating. It is something I, too, need to remember every day. Thanks for the beautiful picture of the tenderness and sufficiency of our Lord.
Oh yes, Dayle. That is the tender and caring Lord we serve. His eye is even on the sparrow!!!
Yes, it may be a simple reminder, but it’s one I need to hear often. The day is coming when my spirit (in its new body) will live forever with God! In the meantime, I am safe and secure in him. Could anything be more reassuring?!
No Nancy, nothing could ever be more reassuring! What an amazing truth!!
Amen!!! I love birds too, and when I see them feasting I am reminded they are provided for, and God provides for me.
The are truly sweet, gentle reminders TR! Of our most faithful Father!
Well said Sheila, just when you think it’s safe to go back into the water ….. I can’t help but think that we miss out on so much that God would have us to be mindful of. He does care, He does watch over us, He knows the problems we face before we bring them to Him in prayer and yes, just when we think that we are strong, He shows us otherwise. Our dependency on Him is 100 %, without Him we actually can’t do anything that actually lasts. And as you have indicated, He takes care of the birds and He values us more than the birds. Thanks for the beautiful reminder! Grace and blessings!
It truly is marvelous the way the Lord watches over us. As you say, Bruce, even before we cry out, he already knows, hears, and sees. That bird found food even in the snow, and we will find the Father’s care great, even in the storms of life!
Amen! Isn’t it beautiful how God cares for us?! This is a beautiful post! Thank you. <3
Is is beautiful Lynn. Truly beautiful!! I love when God speaks in such simple quiet ways!
I immediately thought of St. Francis. You’re in good company.
Oh yes, you’re right Mitch. He did love the birds too! I’ll take his company. There was much to admire in him!
