It’s been a busy summer so far. We started by installing our first-ever air conditioner and a short trip to our summer house. Next, we got our guest home ready for many dinner and house guests. This included Hubby’s niece and family from New York. As you can imagine, with all of our family living so far away, having them here was a special treat!
Of course, there were also all the daily household tasks and the responsibilities that come with pastoring a church once again. Life is surprising sometimes.

It’s also been a particularly hot summer, which also created occasions for relaxation and reflection. According to my husband, when I do the latter, it’s always dangerous. You never know what I might come up with!
My life has been an affair of bright stars and interruptions and I know now surely that it can never escape from these fluctuations. It is a hybrid life, torn in opposite directions.
H.G. Wells
I rather like the way Wells put it: “Bright stars and interruptions,” he said, “a hybrid life torn in opposite directions.”
The older I get, the more this description fits my life. It’s easier to get distracted, even to forget what I was planning to get or do. Interruptions bring disruptions, along the wavy, bumpy path I’ve come to know.
In many ways, my days seem shorter – or at least I accomplish less. Some days I struggle to keep up with the essentials. I can’t do as much as I once did. Deep clean the whole house in two days like I used to? Are you kidding?
I realize that it would be foolish of me to try to do everything the way I used to – and that’s OK. The seasons of life change and pass. The important thing is to adapt to each new one. It’s important to grow in grace and become all that God wants us to be.
How has your summer been so far? What adventures have you had, and what have you learned?

I’m right there with you, my friend–no more marathon deep-cleaning sessions! When we have guests, I like to start a week ahead and accomplish a bit each day. That way I don’t get so bored and disgruntled, AND I’m not exhausted when the guests arrive. I’m looking forward to learning more about Christ-Centered Slow Living, Sheila!
That’s what I do too, Nancy. A little bit each day. It makes things so much easier! I’m so glad we’re journeying together, my friend. Kindred spirits make every journey special!!
