It’s been a busy summer so far, starting with the installation of our first air conditioner and a short stay at our summer house. Followed by getting our guest home ready for many dinner and house guests. Including Hubby’s niece from New York. As you can imagine, with all our family so far away, this was a special treat!
Then of course, there were all the daily tasks and the normal responsibilities that come with once again pastoring a church. Life is surprising sometimes.

It’s also been a particularly hot summer, which also made time for relaxation and reflection. The latter, according to my husband, is always dangerous. You never know what I might come up with!
My life has been an affair of bright stars and interruptions and I know now surely that it can never escape from these fluctuations. It is a hybrid life, torn in opposite directions.
H.G. Wells
I rather like the way Wells put it. Bright stars and interruptions, a hybrid life, torn in opposite directions.
It seems to me that the older I get, the more this describes my life. It’s easier to get distracted, even to forget what I was going to get or do. Interruptions bring disruptions, along what has become a wavy, bumpy path.
In many ways, my days seem to have gotten shorter – or at any rate I get less done. Some days I struggle to keep up with the essentials. I can’t do as much as I once did. Deep clean the whole house in 2 days like I used to – are you kidding?
But I realize that it would be foolish for me to try to do all the things I used to do – and that’s OK. Because the seasons of life pass and change. And the important thing is to change with each passing season. To grow in grace and become all that God wants me to do and be.
How has your summer been so far? What adventures are you having, and what are you learning?

I’m right there with you, my friend–no more marathon deep-cleaning sessions! When we have guests, I like to start a week ahead and accomplish a bit each day. That way I don’t get so bored and disgruntled, AND I’m not exhausted when the guests arrive. I’m looking forward to learning more about Christ-Centered Slow Living, Sheila!

That’s what I do too, Nancy. A little bit each day. It makes things so much easier! I’m so glad we’re journeying together, my friend. Kindred spirits make every journey special!!
